Director General of government-owned Nigerian Natural Medicine Development Agency (NNMDA), Victoria Island, Lagos, Mr. Samuel Oghene Etatuvie, told The Guardian that herbal medicine is relevant in efforts to contain COVID-19. A professor of pharmacognosy at the University of Lagos, Olukemi Odukoya, told The Guardian that herbal medicine has done its bit in efforts to contain COVID-19. “As you know, we have no right to claims of cure until adequate scientific analyses and clinical trials have been convincingly done. x“Many of the products (herbal medicine) serve as immune boosters improving the body’s ability to combat diseases, and not necessarily as having direct effect on the COVID-19 virus itself. “You cannot say as an applicant that you have a herbal medicine that can cure COVID when you didn’t have a well-designed experiment to prove it.
